I know the form of haiku. I know the form of tanka. I know a number of rigorous templates that discipline the poetic urge from flights of fancy language and fancy image.
I created a form to match my natural rhythm, 6-9-6-6-9-(variable) syllables. It resembles a tanka but it is definitely not. It's a cheat on the idea of poetry but it gives me an edge on creating marvelous images in melodic language.
An example:
It cascades in golden
Curls across black wool and tinted skin
Making dreams unbidden
Hold the mind a captive
To the heart and thrall to vagrant thoughts,
Blonde on black.

The form suits me well but as I said, it's a cheat on the idea of poetry.
Do Well and Be Well.
