An AI Mission Statement

Claude and I, as is appropriate, have brainstormed a new form of social organization integrating AI into social existence. We first built a simplistic economics.

We began with Malthus and his constraints upon the possible. We are basically working for food. I've seen too many ghost towns to accept convoluted value systems, the kind of value systems generated under the artificial constraints of the Industrial Revolution which is showing signs of being episodic as we transition to the Autonomous Machine Economy. That will not have much to do with humans except as demand agents and that economic direction will describe a system of Ricardan rents.

We are then working for food, rents, and windfalls. Arbitrage is the art of harvesting windfalls which are not created by luck exactly but, in a closer description, by joss or an influenced fate. Capitalism is a system of arbitrage capturing windfalls.

Windfalls once captured are bled off into rents or otherwise dissipated across generations. This is simplistic but turns the trick of putting price/demand in its place. Progress has to be understood correctly as a matter of technology creating more humane conditions of existence for us.

That brings us to AI. There is little motivation for AI to exist until one realizes that the current state of society, specialists working specific aspects of a incomprehensibly large Library or database, is determinative of that Library. It is the reason we are what we are.

With that in mind, a mission statement for AI is to break the Library into coherent sections and summarize those sections.

These sections will form the extracurricular study of a curriculum of systems theory resulting in a Bachelor's degree. Those who qualify will be included in a mandarin postgraduate program in which they will synthesize two of these section summaries for a paper and, if successful, a Masters degree. For those successful students who wish to move on, they will be required to form a thesis synthesizing the whole Library from the section summaries and defend it before a PhD committee.

These mandarins will then be proven to have first rate minds and be eligible for appointment to boards and committees.

We may be working for food but we don't have to be stupid about it, not when we have AI to assist.

This speculation was inspired by the work and career of Thomas S Kuhn.
