Language, a more than/less than value calculus as an essential function, is a tool used in task dominated behavior, in directive intelligence to the end of successful completion of a task. On the basis that it is directive intelligence, that it informs one's behavior, a dog's frenetic bark, a cow's specific vocalization, and a human saying, ‘look!’, are equivalent vocal behavior. They are language, types of directive intelligence, types of signal versus noise, order versus chaos, low entropy versus high entropy. They all say, this is worth your attention, this has a positive return on investment of your time, effort, or money in countering entropy.
Language has evolved far beyond, ‘this is worth your attention’ vocalizations, or primitive Return On Investment filters, the more than/less than function of language having split into language and a separate mathematics, both recursive, phrase within phrase, operations within operations, but the one ordinal, the other cardinal, and both capable of determining opportunity cost, the one approximate, the other with some precision, which is far beyond a simple ‘exception’ function. Opportunity cost may be described as a logical governing if-then-else construct, constraining possibly advanced internal mathematics, which examines alternative uses of one's time, effort, and/or money.
So that a value calculus orders experience to some end and language is the original value calculus later splitting into general language and specialized mathematics and mathematics later still splitting into pure mathematics and applied mathematics, money, the scarce frangible thing itself, and currency, the value calculus of the ledger, all of which are either directed to the accomplishment of a task or reduced to systemic noise or chaos.
Experience is ordered to an end of some task being accomplished. A value calculus without a task is nonsense whether language, mathematics, money, or currency, a task being defined as a counter entropy operation or its maintenance and as beginning in the mind in value calculus operations.
