As I look back on the intellectual labor of these last years I am above all content. I am a writer so the image that occurs to me is that of facing a blank sheet of paper and taking pen in hand with no clear course to a suitable destination. Writing is a confidence game. It rewards bold ambition and clear eyed realistic goals. Thinking is another matter.
The start is the same, a blank sheet of paper, a pen, and no clear course to a logical conclusion but thinking is not art. Thinking is work, pure work. I have done some excellent work too.
I began with the problem of the diminishment of aggregate demand that capable robots absolutely have to engender. A shrinking workforce can not possibly engage that kind of productive enterprise at full measure. We can only buy so many luxury aircraft and then the equipment goes idle and we get poorer. The conclusion was obvious.
We have to transfer wealth from robot labor to aggregate demand to prevent our capitalist system from collapsing from demand shortfalls. We must to survive. Adam Smith never dreamed of Atlas the Boston Dynamics robot.
From that conclusion I moved on to a full blown mechanism supporting aggregate demand and economic democracy. It's been fun. I hope you enjoy these last few brief blogs.
