One cannot remove human beings from the equation of progress and still have meaning. The universe may not be anthropocentric but everything associated with the human march to progress is. Nice philosophical points have only the meaning that humans bestow upon them.
Meaning may or may not be a universal concept of the process of fit and structure, of puzzle building, of systems building, but it only exists as meaning in terms of transient and significant attributes in the eye, language , and mind of a human, a human defined as a coincidence of a physiological system, a psychological system, and philosophical system functioning at a high level and in process of incorporating itself into a larger system as an act of Becoming a set of transient and significant attributes.
The only way that any autonomous automated economic activity has meaning at all is if a human is the directive intelligence of it or, obeying an ad hoc process of next logical step, its teleos is human directive intelligence.
Meaning is the ultimate humane attribute.
